Tech Discovery pre-skills bootcamp learning programme open for applications from Lancashire residents

Training course will give people of all backgrounds the opportunity to develop skills as well as understanding of different types of tech careers available

LANCASHIRE, U.K. –Tech Discovery, a learning programme designed to help people build their technology skills and prepare for digital skills bootcamps, is returning to Lancashire, announced CompTIA, the nonprofit association for the information technology (IT) industry and workforce.

This is the second time that Tech Discovery has taken place in Lancashire, with the first iteration of the programme commencing in 2021. Candidates who have successfully completed Tech Discovery previously have moved into careers including IT support, cyber security, software development, and product management.

Tech Discovery, which is co-funded by the Lancashire Digital Skills Partnership, is a free four-week virtual learning experience designed to help individuals explore and build their skills in a range of areas, including cybersecurity, data analytics, systems and networking and software development.

Candidates undertake live online training, given by an expert CompTIA trainer and guest speakers from industry, throughout the working week for three hours a day (6pm-9pm). Sessions use industry standard content, including eLearning, cloud-powered virtual labs and practice exams. Learners also receive the opportunity to enhance their career readiness skills with guidance on CV building, creating an effective digital presence and establishing industry-relevant soft skills.

As part of the course, participants will be prepared to take the CompTIA IT Fundamentals (ITF+) certification. This internationally recognised certification demonstrates that the holder has the essential IT skills and knowledge needed to complete tasks commonly performed by advanced end-users and entry-level IT professionals alike, demonstrating their readiness for the digital workplace.

The 25 places on the 2023 programme are open to people from all backgrounds across Lancashire who are interested in developing technology skills and looking to move into the industry. Those from groups underrepresented in the tech sector are highly encouraged to apply, including women, those who are disabled or have long-term health conditions, and Ethnic Minority candidates.

Zeshan Sattar, Senior Director, Learning & Skills Certification at CompTIA said: “The tech industry continues to be a large and growing sector across the UK, including in Lancashire. This means that ensuring everyone living in the area can access the necessary resources and support to build careers in the industry is vital.

“This is why we’re bringing the Tech Discovery programme back to Lancashire. Through robust training, useful resources and continuous support from our members and industry, the course will equip individuals from across the region with the necessary skills to enable them to move onto the next chapter in their career, whether that’s an apprenticeship, skills bootcamp, or entry level job role.”

Ann Dean, LEP Director and Chair of the Lancashire Digital Skills Partnership, said: "We are delighted that CompTIA are delivering this opportunity in Lancashire enabling Lancashire residents to benefit from their vast industry knowledge and well-respected qualifications. With the growing number of tech and digital roles in Lancashire, as referenced in the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership's Digital Strategy, this programme will give residents both skills and insight into the different areas of tech careers giving them tools to make informed choices on their next steps in a new career. Participants will have the opportunity to seek employment at the end of the programme or benefit from one of Lancashire's Skills Bootcamps specialising in a chosen area. "

Those who wish to register for the Tech Discovery programme may apply at https://www.comptia.org/content/lp/tech-discovery. Deadlines for applications are on Friday 14th April. Candidates will be selected to join the programme, which begins on the 24th April, upon completion of an online application form, aptitude assessment and a successful interview.
